On 21-22 March Artur Wyrwa from AGH University of Science and Technology went to IIASA i.a. to discuss with Sabine Fuss - the coordinator of Task 1.3 “Development of a GEO consistent methodology to quantify the environmental costs of energy exploitation” about the current works on literature review of environmental costing approaches. He also met Janusz Cofala and preliminarily discussed the issue of linkages between GAINS-Mercury and Polyphemus air quality modeling system. It was also a great occasion to meet experts involved in two projects dealing with air quality modelling i.e. the Network for National Integrated Assessment Modelling and European Consortium for Modelling of Air Pollution and Climate Strategies. Artur Wyrwa presented the concept of mercury modelling in the framework of the EnerGEO project. He shared with other air quality modelers with information on the progress in the developments of the chemical model for mercury implemented in Polyphemus system.
He asked about the experience and current results of IAM groups in estimation of external costs related to mercury emissions. He was recommended to review newest reports of UNEP Mercury Programme and US EPA. Additionally results of EU FP6 projects: DROPS, INTARESE , HEIMTSA should be considered.
