Land Cover Classification Competition II

Monday, March 26, 2012

Owing to the large amount of disagreement among global land cover products, the creation of a global hybrid land cover product is seen as a major step towards improvement. In that regard, the goal of this competition is to focus on the areas of greatest disagreement among the existing products. On pixels where all three products are classified differently, we need volunteers to classify the pixels with the help of Google Earth.

to enter the competition please go to http://competition.geo-wiki.org. The competition will end March 30th, 2012 at 23:59:59 ECT

Special Issue

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

The planned issue is centered around an integrated spatial / regional systems perspective of providing energy to society. One key tenet is the view that most renewables in the end are directly or indirectly driven by solar energy. Thus the Earth's surface, as the receiving boundary layer where most energy conversions occur, (co-)defines a region's potential for generating energy. Remote Sensing as the means for assessing and monitoring surface characteristics contributes valuable information towards developing sustainable energy systems.

IMPLEMENTING GEOSS

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

At a time of rapidly rising world energy demand and high oil prices, the production and use of bioenergy has entered a new era of global growth. Africa, with its warm climate, and abundant natural resources, including large amounts of unused fertile land, has the potential to become an important player in the production of bioenergy. However, efforts to exploit this potential face several challenges. A major technical barrier is the lack of accurate and well-organized data on renewable energy resources, such as biomass data as they relate to land and water availability, competing uses, and processing.
